Sectional Meeting Minutes
May 8, 1999 5:20 p.m.
Shreveport, LA
The meeting was called to order by Vice Chair Bobby Thorton in the absence
of Sectional Chair Dave Burns.
OLD BUSINESS
The first item for old business was the issue of payment to Texas A&M for
hosting the 1998 Southwest Sectional Championships. As of May 1999 the
club has not received payment for hosting the event. The issue was
referred to the current executive committee for investigation and
resolution within 90 days.
The second item for old business was the review of the Treasury Report by
Tom Nail. The report was not prepared due the lack of financial statements
and reports prepared by the section's previous treasurer. It was moved
to refer this matter to the executive committee for investigation.
The next item for discussion was the topic of the sectional operations
manual. The 1999-99 executive committee was to have prepared a sectional
operations manual. The task as of May 1999 was incomplete. The incoming
executive committee for 1999-2000 was appointed to research the viability
of a sectional operations manual. The manual would include procedures for
conducting circuit events. It is to be based on the current divisional
operations manual.
The fourth item for old business is the selling of the sectional scoring
equipment which was to be sold during the 1998-99 season. The items have
yet to be sold. It was proposed to auction the equipment to the highest
bidder via a sealed bid at a sectional circuit event in the 99-2000 season.
Information is to be included in the season's sectional mailing.
The last item for old business was the topic of centralizing the sectional
championships. As of May 1999 it is possible that the Section could expand
to the west by the addition of the Border Texas Division and to the East by
adding Memphis to the Ark-La-Miss Division. It was proposed that the topic
be held for later discussion pending the outcome of our section's
expansion.

NEW BUSINESS
The size of the Southwest Section's mailing was introduced as a topic for
discussion. Currently, the mailings are mailed to all individual members
of the Section. That number has been known to reach almost one thousand.
The possibility of limiting the mailing to clubs and divisions was
discussed. No appointments or resolutions were proposed for this problem.
Clarification of divisional and sectional boundaries was called for. Oscar
Barrera was appointed to research and prepare a proposal for amending the
sectional bylaws.
A call was put forth for ideas and concerns for the 2000 sectional
championships. The idea of having a three day event was discussed.
Bob Fiegel reported on the success of the section's web page. If anyone
would like information about their events or club information, send it to
Bob in one of the following formats: ASCII text, a prepared HTML page, or
a link to a page.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
